How often do we come across people advising us to live in the moment and not to rush with things. Well what exactly does living in the moment mean?

I remember a famous quote by T Harv Eker which says " How you do anything is how you do everything", it's very important to notice how we are doing even smallest of things because that is exactly how we will be doing the bigger things.

if you think you will not organize your bed but be organized in your work place, it's a myth. Every-time you perform an activity, your brain takes notes on how you performed that activity and prompt you to act in similar way when you are doing some other activity.

It's not rocket science to know that the brain is programmable and can be programmed to perform the way you wish and it is no wonder that we have the power of creating habits that erase the old habits and create a better lifestyle. First few days of creating a new habit could be the most difficult thing, as your brain resists changes and tries to stay in it's comfort zone. This is where you need to exhibit your will to overcome the power of the brain from stopping you from performing that activity. This phase could last for over a week or two. After that your brain starts getting used to it and after another week or two it will start relishing the new habit. You will reach a stage where you might feel cheated if you don't do this activity. This is the stage of addiction. if the purpose of habit making is good and addiction is a super push for you to perform it but remember that your brain doesn't recognize a habit as a good or bad, it just recognizes it as a habit, so you need to be extremely careful of what is your input as brain largely functions on limited input that is accumulated over time.

living in the moment also comes with practice. what exactly to practice?

In the era of digital distraction mindfulness has to be practiced, which means I don't eat when I am scrolling through my phone or watching tv, I put my complete focus on eating and the feeling I get once i finish eating. Similarly, I don't sing while I bath but I put my entire focus on how I feel when the water falls on my body. So to have a complete experience of the present we need to be focused on what we are doing and focus can be built with sustained practice, meditation is one practice which will help you build focus with ease and also helps to stop thinking when not required. whenever you realize you have nothing much to do other than scrolling through someone's tweet or getting jealous over someone's Instagram post, you can practice deep breathing and conscious breathing, this will not only help you stay calm and composed but also help you realize how when you do things consciously it could be a complete different experience.

Every activity that you perform in a day could be either compulsive or conscious driven, when you get into the habit of performing activities consciously and not compulsively, you will experience a whole new reality. The tasks which bother you while you do it compulsively could be enjoyed when you do it consciously.

The only way you know you are alive is through awareness of your breath, once you start putting that awareness into everything, you will see blisfulness becomes a living reality.

Tips to live consciously

  1. Notice even smallest of work and how you perform it, is it compassionate or compulsive.

  2. Use the observation to change tiny things like how you fold your bed with awareness, how you put your keys at place, how you arrange your work place.

  3. Once you start seeing the results of conscious Space you wouldn't want to do it otherwise.

  4. Practice high levels of awareness in your work space. Check if you open your phone continuously as a compulsive act and try to overcome it through awareness and not through forced behavioral challenges.

  5. Try to be conscious of your breath whenever possible to enhance your awareness.

I can assure you when we use our awareness, we are less prone to make mistakes and more prone to enjoy the act of doing the work. I, Sincerely hope that each one of us will try to live better with better awareness.
