It is said that life works in mysterious ways, adversity is one factor which can contribute some of us to rethink our actions and push us to the corner and make us feel worthless about ourselves. If you are waiting for an easy and obstacle free life means you are not prepared for life. At some point in life we all compare our successes to others around and think that we didn't accomplish enough. But the definition of success is what makes it horrible, the capitalist society quotes that financial well being as the success. well it can't be argued that it is not, but is it the only factor which constitutes success?
It's time for you to redefine the idea of success for yourself, the one thing you have to remember when you are comparing yourself with others is that your starting point was way different compared to the person you are comparing with!
The rat race of being rich is the game that only people who are materialistic can think, is it wrong, absolutely not!
If material success is the only aspect that brings you content and happiness, you are free to follow it but defining it as a UNIVERSAL idea of success is a foolish act of apathy!
A wonderful philosophy in Japanese culture is that they never retire because most of them follow and do things that they absolutely love, you see them to be long living, it could be as simple as making sushi to maintaining a vegetable garden, they always occupy themselves with something that makes them truly happy. In this way they are constantly involved in life and they are prepared to face any adversity in life. In fact, a famous Japanese proverb says "Fall seven times stand up eight", which defines their spirit towards life. Let's admit that the outside world may not completely happen the way you want it to, but what happens within you is completely in your hands. So, nurturing yourself to face adversity from within is an important upbringing that everyone should cultivate. If you are at peace within there is no way that the outer world can disturb or distract you. If your happiness, anger, anxiousness, anxiety, etc., are defined by the external world, aren't we enslaved by others. They can influence you the way they wish and make an impact that you are not prepared for.
How do I prepare myself for adversity?
Change is the only constant, if you are prepared to accept it with all your will and heart, it can be said that you will face adversity with absolute strength and will come out of it victorious. Detachment is another principle which helps build resilience to fight adversity. Being attached to a position, person or a material world can literally throw us off as time passes by. However, if you are aware that these pleasures and positions are to make your life simple and not your life themselves, it is very obvious that you will see adversity as a chance to regrow yourself and build a more meaningful life. This property of being anti-fragile towards life's adversity is the most important and wonderful learning that you can learn from Nelson Mandela. His life is an inspiration to those thinking that adversity is the nature of life. It is said that he invited the officers who enslaved and tortured him to his swearing in ceremony of being the president of South Africa which is absolute proof that he left all the hatred when he was freed from imprisonment. He gave life a second chance to rewrite history.
