Research on longest and happiest living people suggest a few things in common, today we will try and see one aspect among these people which makes them happy and live long.

when I used to be a kid, I used to see my grand mother sitting outside the house and often talking to strangers as our house was right in front of the bus stop and the frequency the buses were not high, so people usually came and sat down near chavadi (A place in front of the house where people usually sit, chat and observe most beautiful experiences like sunrise, rain, etc.,)

I used to be surprised by this unusual gesture of hers and wonder why she used to wave at the kids going to the school and also tell people to drive safe if they are travelling in two wheeler or four wheeler, she had this inherent nature which had always intrigued me, now I clearly recognize why she was doing what she did and what was the purpose behind it.

Often times we think we can only help people financially which is not true because a lot of time just compassionate words, kind nature and the ability to listen to them might do much more good. Each one of us can help others feel good about themselves, the easiest way is to smile at strangers, you will automatically receive it back. While everybody is thinking 100 things and walking and just imagine a face which you don't recognize but is not hesitating to smile at you, human nature is as such.

In fact its a part of the culture in Eastern world to greet strangers with respect and kind words and a famous proverb by Mark Twain goes like this, " The universal brotherhood of man is our most precious possession", when you can feel other life as your own, you learn to live compassionately.

Feeling that everyone is a part of you and everything as a part of us is a loosing bond in this country, when two old strangers meet I see them talking about politics and the state of the country and when I see two youngsters meet I see them busy with their phones, I am not saying it's wrong to use your phone unless it has created a barrier for yourself and isolated you from everyone else around you.

Living in a community where we are constantly present for each other and treat each other with respect and gratitude is a most wonderful feeling that you can ever imagine.

It is one of the most simple secrets for a happy life.
